KIKI has been one of the most rewarding projects i have been involved in. It has been incredible to see how a community of photographers are formed and keeps growing daily in order to learn, share and love together.
It was therefor so amazing to see that KIKI has inspired a project with one of the members, Sally Wellbeloved (yes, that is her real, super amazing surname!)
The project is called “Togs for Togs” and you can read more about it below. Weather you are part of KIKI or not, weather you are a photographer or not, the cause is great! So if you want to contribute, please get in touch with Sally or Jon Meinkin to see how you can help.
“Togs from Togs!” Is a community initiative where photographers are giving back to communities that need it most. We as photographers often are privileged to see and capture amazing images from all reaches of life, often being able to capitilise on images where the communities from which they are taken receive very little, or nothing in return. Its time to change that that, and we as photographers are taking it upon ourselves as a community to come together and make a difference.
“Togs from Togs!” is a project born from the possibility of connecting, collecting, and giving the gift of warmth. Each photographer who comes on board pledges to collect from their friends and families 10 warm winter items – from jackets to shoes, socks and blankets, from baby to full grown adult sizes – and donate these to worthy causes in Cape Town and the rest of South Africa.
It is my hope that this project becomes an annual event where thousands of items are donated and those that need it most can benefit from the warmth of items that we have in abundance. This year, our target is 2000 items by 4th July.
We have a way to go still – so please get on board and get into your cupboards and see what you can clear out that can really make a difference to someone less fortunate.
There is also a KIKI Meet Up happening tonight if you are keen to meet some great photographers and get inspired.
