In just a few weeks, Christine and i will be doing a series of talks with photographers in Europe. I will be talking about social media in general and how it relates specifically to photographers.
I have been doing a couple of these talks and workshops in the past, but i want to shake things up a bit and improve on what i have to share. This is where you come in…
I would love to hear what your questions are relating to anything social media, websites, blogging etc . This is a blank canvas. I would love to know what you would love to know. This way, i can see if what i share is still valuable, or am i preaching to the choir, selling ice to an Eskimo, teaching swear words to a sailor – you get the point.
Please do not feel that your question is insignificant. If you are here and have that question, guaranteed that someone else will be wondering the same thing.
Who knows, i might just be answering those questions in a couple of upcoming blog posts written especially for you…
So if you have been looking for some answers, now is the chance to ask by simply posting a comment below.
Thanks for the help!
ok here it is… i feel so uncomfortable with the whole technical side of social media. it really makes me feel sooooooooooooo incompetent, so i just push it aside and never learn how to actually do it. i don’t understand all the geeky {i mean it in a nice way!} language… it’s not really in my line of interest but i know i HAVE to master it! yes i’m scared of social media, it’s complicated and not in my comfort zone.. how to you help someone like ME! {thanks iaan!}
Great question! Would love to help – are there specific things you find confusing or terms you don’t understand?

how can one make a living from social media
Hi Iaan. Strange that I saw your post today. Was just wondering about the following topic earlier. Is Google+ still relevant and what audience is still using it? I have a profile, probably like all social junkies do, but barely use it. Unfortunately I am no photographer so I am not sure if my question is relevant to the topic, but I here it is.
My question is how to you as a brand create a social media strategy? a plan that will help you go where you want to go? I am sure that Christine has done this over time, but it’s good to know what/ when you should be blogging, what is the most viral content etc
As someone who has no training in IT – It is very overwhelming knowing what you need to start with. Should someone design and set up your website – I would like to know what do you need to request from this person e.g. SEO etc. How do you assess the effectiveness of your website, facebook etc. How do you maintain all these things over a long period of time to maintain your SEO and social networking.
Hi Iaan & Christine, I wonder how we can create a linke between online and “offline” social media, such as old school word of mouth? I think one of the hardest thing to measure is Social Media strategy’s “profitability”. Tips or advice on frameworks / key measurements you personally use to quantify Social media profitability will be great!
I so often have the problem, to think “that is not interesting enough” and so I’m hard working to be inspired what to post. Personal but not too personal. How can I get inspired what to post ?
I agree with Dorelies. How to be personal without being too personal and having people think: We don’t really care what you are thinking or feeling or doing?
With all social networks – we are constantly posting information about our lives – even if its the smallest of points – how do you judge what it is you are going to post , no matter how small the post is going to be(twitter/fb/g+/etc.) & if it may affect your profile? (I guess I’m trying to get at how other may judge what you say)
I like this question! Would definitely be writing about this soon. Thanks
you asked for it and you shall receive. I’m starting to see the whole “social media” craze. I’ve been under the rock for the past few years. I just recently created a business page for my dying art of photography, but I want to build its online presence with my work, but its starting to feel like a “portfolio” facebook page. Help.
Thanks for the honesty! Look forward to write a bit more about this and how social media and art should live together.
Hi Iaan,
I’d like to find out how does one convert your social media followers from just followers to sales?
